Biography

Suzie Maeder was born in Switzerland. In 1969 she moved
to London to study photography at Ealing Technical College (now TVU) winning First Prize in the Ilford College Award in 1970. She then obtained an MA Degree from the Royal College of Art in 1973.

Her reputation as a freelance photographer was developed in
the field of classical music and her expertise led to contracts with major recording companies, international orchestras and acclaimed solo artists.

Her photographs appear in publications around the world and she has shown in over twenty exhibitions in Europe, America, Australia and the Middle East.

In recognition of her artistic achievement she was awarded the ‘Commendation Prize of the City of Lucerne’ in 1982.

Being drawn to more abstract interpretations, she compiled a highly original collection of pictures of musical instruments and scores which resulted in exhibitions and the book ‘Seeing Music’ in 2001.

Studying Egyptology at Birkbeck College in the mid nineties has influenced her perception of form and colour and she now explores these themes, alongside her first love of analogue black and white, but also using the techniques of the digital media.
